Genius Academy Website

#1. Introduction

From September 15, 2019 to October 10, 2019, I did an internship within THE GENIO'S ACADEMY. During this internship in general management, this internship was the opportunity for me to get closer to a real company and to position in a professional environment where the problems are complex, the environment is very active and the competition is fierce. Beyond enriching my technical knowledge, this internship allowed me to understand how information is important in the workplace and that good control of information means more control in the market (More money).
My internship supervisor being the general manager of the company, I was able to learn under excellent conditions the role of a director general, the pedagogical constraints in a private school, the way of maintaining a good working environment and many more essential skills in a company.

#2. Issue

In our modern world where people are spending more and more time on the Internet, the presence of business on the Web is no longer a question, but a necessity. Yet there is still a certain percentage of companies that have no mention on the Internet, although it is almost as essential than having a phone number. Often, it is either for lack of time, or lack of information, or that executives see other effective ways of finding customers, communicating and grow their bottom line THE GENIO'S ACADEMY was one of those companies.

#3. Existing solutions

After the creation of the information system management, the school understood the interest of social networks to develop their notoriety with their customers, for this the administration decided to create a Facebook page for THE GENIO'S ACADEMY and share all information about the school, contingencies, events and use it as a communication tool with the client. This solution was Acceptable at first but after a while they noticed some drawbacks due to the use of this solution:

  • A limited audience: being only on Facebook, even though it is the most used social network, the audience is still very limited (more than 62% of active people between 18 and 64 years old are there).
  • A visual identity denied unless: the standard aspect of the page Facebook will not allow others to stand out graphically and the design of the Facebook page will not match the identity of the company.
  • Poor SEO: The business is not getting good SEO rankings using the Facebook page.
  • A risky addiction: The school is dependent on Facebook, which is very popular today but it can disappear at any time like other networks. In addition, it is at the mercy of the conditions of Facebook (algorithm, interface, regulations, advertising rates) which may change have changed at any time.
  • A less or even less serious image: From the point of view of a customer or potential consumer, a Facebook page is unprofessional.
  • A transparency that can serve you: the number of fans is known to all. Comments are too. And you have to manage all of this in terms of the image of the school.

#4. My solution

I offered the company my solution which was the development of a showcase website for the school for the following reasons:

  1. I sincerely believe that the first advantage of creating a website is to appear professional.
  2. The ease of creating a web site without much knowledge. As such, the site will cost less.
  3. The website can be used to convey company ideas and showcase school services or products.
  4. The website can also position the school as an expert in their field, especially if they choose to maintain a school blog.
  5. Finally, and this is certainly a definite advantage: your website can really save you money. How? 'Or' What ? First, it will have a higher ROI than a Facebook Page, then you can transform it into a system for the management of student, teacher or employee registrations or use it as a tool for communication with clients or other school offices and finally you will be the (only) master in edge.

#5. Software architecture

I decided to use the cloud for the back end, or more accurately I based myself on an architecture that uses a service called SaaS. Software as a Service (SaaS), or Software as a Service in French, is a software distribution model in which a third-party vendor hosts the applications and makes them available to its customers over the Internet. We chose this architecture for the following reasons:

  1. no company-level IT equipment is required to use this solution,
  2. no data stored internally,
  3. automatic application update,
  4. the application can be used anywhere and anytime: all you need is a simple internet connection and a computer, phone or tablet,
  5. SaaS mode management provides a generally higher level of security than internal management,
  6. Speed of deployment,
  7. Saves time and money.
